Outreach and Missions

We believe as followers of Jesus we should be taking the Good News to our community and the world. We want to make Jesus’ last command our first priority. Here at The Connection we do that through several channels. We’ve been a pioneer in a holistic approach to missions at home and abroad. Below are some of the ways we actively seek to accomplish this task.

Community Outreach

As far as our community here in San Diego goes we are actively involved in projects that let those around us know about God’s message of love through serving our community in the name of Jesus. These programs range from simple cash gifts to local schools to providing counseling to victims of spousal abuse (Healing Well Ministries). One month our congregation might be cutting brush on community horse trails, and the next be a part of a food distribution program on our campus, or holding “Trunk or Treat” as a safe Halloween alternative. We also have used our campus for a staging area for the “Convoy of Hope” to provide relief supplies for fire/disaster victims. We also love to share Christ’s love in tangible ways with our neighbors, schoolmates, or co-workers including prayer for healing, salvation or deliverance. At the core of all of these programs is the vision to let our community know that Jesus loves them and has a destiny for each one of them.

Overseas Outreach & Missions

As far as the world outreach, The Connection has been an innovative leader in bringing the Good News to the far reaches of the globe. Project Compassion, (www.projectcompassion.org), a medical mission was founded out of The Connection in 1993 and has now brought medical treatment working hand in hand with the gospel to over a quarter of a million people in 41 countries. Besides supporting 54 missionaries monthly and hosting missionary speakers monthly in our services, the Connection has launched programs that partner with people in developing nations to help them start small businesses and assist in community improvement, (see Global Partners in Development). The Connection has also helped to startHealing The Nations Ministries, a cutting edge treatment for HIV/AIDS that links this new medical technology with the sharing of God’s message of salvation.

Periodically, we also take building, evangelism, teaching, leadership training and service teams to the developing nations to partner with our missionaries in viable projects that provide schools and services for needy communities there. We hold an annual Missions Convention that highlights our missions endeavors, and pray regularly for our missionaries. We support Assemblies of God missionaries as well as missionaries from other streams.

In 2010, our annual missions convention is scheduled for February 28th, with missionary Clark Jensen, from Nepal/India speaking. We are also hosting a building team to Ecuador in the end of October, 2010, so plan now to be a part of this team. If you are interested in missions or in joining our Missions Team which prays and plans our missions events, please contact us.
