Our History

In January 1988 Bob and Claudia Maddux pioneered a new church in the Poway area.  It began in a home but soon outgrew that meeting place.  Six months after beginning the church they were able to move to their present location on Twin Peaks Road.  The church continued to grow in numbers and expand in outreach.  It now occupies a lovely campus with a worship facility that seats 600. The church was originally named Christian Life Assembly but on Easter of 2009 we had a name change and re-launch to better connect with our surrounding community. Today we are called The Connection: a place where seekers can connect to God, Others and Destiny.

Over the years Pastor Bob and Claudia have seen the development of various ministries both locally and outreaches globally.

  • From the start fervant Prayer and Celebratory worship have been a strong emphasis of the church. Regular times of prayer were developed and have been a hallmark of the church to this day. Multiple worship teams started and serve to bring the congregation into God’s presence.
  • Home Fellowship groups (Connect Groups) were developed, along with an active Christian Education programs for children. These included scouting type programs for both boys and girls (Royal Rangers & Girls Club).
  • Outreaches to children include Sunday morning Children’s Church (Kids Konnection) and an annual kids summer camp.
  • In recent times a dynamic Prayer Ministry Team serves alongside the Pastors and Elders with prayer being held every night of the week. We have just started Southern California School of the Supernatural with another church in the area to further train our people in the use of prophetic gifts and supernatural ministry. We also hold Shepherd’s Clinics periodically where people with any need can come for extended prayer from our elders & prayer teams.
  • The Connection’s youth department (Rendezvous Point) meets each Wednesday night with times of powerful worship, challenging messages, extended times of ministry and great fellowship.

The church also includes programs such as Men’s and Women’s Ministries, scouting type programs for theboys and girls, and a fellowship for the seniors (Prime Timers).

From its inception the church has had a heart for Missions & Outreach.  In the early years only a handful of missionaries were supported but as the vision grew so did the number of missionaries. Today The Connection supports 54 monthly. The church has also raised up and released from its ranks ministries that are touching the world.  One such ministry that was founded in 1993 by The Connection is Project Compassion.  This medical missions outreach takes teams of doctors and nurses to third world countries to hold clinics and share Christ. In the last several years other globally connected programs like Global Partners In Development, & Healing the Nations Ministries have emerged from The Connection to share people, provision and principles with our partners in developing nations.

Pastor Bob sees the church continuing to be a place of prayer and Christian worship built around strong teaching from the Word.  His prayer and heart is for the congregation to focus and reach out to the needs of people in the community as well as around the world.  He desires is to see those who God has called here develop and be used to their full potential in whatever field or endeavor God has called them to. We hope to see the continued expansion of humanitarian efforts that will provide an additional platform for sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
